Troy Aikman reaffirms his confidence in Dak Prescott

Troy Aikman still believes in Dak Prescott despite the playoff disappointments the Dallas Cowboys have been through over the last few years. In an interview with Athlon Sports, the former Cowboys quarterback shared his faith in the current Cowboys signal caller.

“I still believe in Dak,” Aikman said. “I think that until you do it, there’s always those criticisms. I know Peyton Manning went through that. His first three years, he didn’t win a playoff game, and then you look back on it now and you can’t imagine that anyone would question whether or not he could win a playoff game.”

Since becoming the starting QB in 2016, Prescott has led the Cowboys to the playoffs six times and has a 2-5 record. The team has yet to reach the NFC Championship or a Super Bowl during that span, and Prescott has thrown 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions in the seven playoff games.

What about Dak Prescott’s contract extention?

Prescott is entering the final year of his contract and has not signed an extension. Last week, the 30-year-old spoke to reporters at the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala and was asked about his future with the Cowboys.

“I’m not going to say I fear being here or not. I don’t fear either situation, to be candid with you,” Prescott said, per NFL.com. “I love this game and love to play and love to better myself as a player and my teammates around me. Right now it’s with the Dallas Cowboys, it’s where I want to be, and that’s where I am, and that’s the focus. And after the season we’ll see where we’re at and if the future holds that. And if not, we’ll go from there.”

Prescott may have underperformed during the playoffs, but he is one of the top QBs in the league. The three-time Pro Bowler is coming off arguably the best season of his career, completing 69.5 percent of his passes while throwing for 4,516 yards with 36 touchdowns and just nine interceptions with a passer rating of 105.9 in 2023. He finished second in MVP voting and was selected to the All-Pro Second Team for the first time in his career.

“I’m focused on right here, right now, where I am. That’s always how I’ve been,” Prescott said. “Anytime you have asked me, it’s always been about right now, getting better tomorrow. I’ve been in the situation before, so it’s OK. I’m fine. In any situation at any point, I’m betting on myself.”
