Trail Blazers center gets revenge on old team

Portland Trail Blazers big man Deandre Ayton insisted he didn't care about playing the Phoenix Suns. His play told a different story.

Ayton finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds against the Phoenix Suns, who drafted him first overall in 2018. After two years of contract disputes and discontent, Phoenix sent Ayton to the Blazers this summer for center Jusuf Nurkic as part of the three-team Damian Lillard trade.

Portland coach Chauncey Billups intentionally ran plays early for his young big man, who took a season-high 18 shots in the game. While he made just six of them, Ayton was solid on defense as Portland held the high-scoring Suns to 104 points, more than 10 points below their average.

Ayton insists that playing Phoenix was just another game for him.

Besides, Ayton has more important things to focus on than his old team. Take, for instance, his emerging television career, which began with an appearance on the animated series "American Dad." (Ayton was not animated himself.)

While it was literally a Cameo appearance, Ayton showed that he can deliver if you give him the ball — or a script.
