Los Angeles Lakers: LeBron James’ GOAT Case vs. Michael Jordan is Dead, Says ESPN Analyst — ‘There’s nothing he can do’

At this point, it’s probably safe to say that the debate about who is the greatest of all time in the basketball realm is not going to die. But here’s one thing related to that, according to former NBA sharpshooter and current ESPN analyst Tim Legler, is already dead as far as he’s concerned: Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James‘ case against Michael Jordan.

Tim Legler Doesn’t See a Way for Los Angeles Lakers Star LeBron James Surpassing MJ in GOAT Debate

During an episode of Get Up on ESPN, Legler agreed with Stephen A. Smith about James potentially being viewed by even more people if the Los Angeles Lakers superstar manages to take down the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs and eventually win another ring in the same postseason run. However, it appears that even if the Lakers pull that off, Legler’s not going to change his mind.

Well first, I agree with you that if they take out Denver, the adrenaline and the confidence that that group is going to have to now look like we got the big dog out of the way, they’re going to think that they can win the whole thing, including beating the Boston Celtics. And think about what that run would mean, beat Denver, potentially beat Kevin Durant, maybe beat, take care of Luka and Kyrie at some point, then get the Celtics, a 64 win team. And that’s what it would take to make that happen. I absolutely agree with Stephen A. In this regard, that’s about the only thing LeBron could do at this point, because I say this all the time, he is cemented.

At number two, as much as anything on any list you could ever create is cemented at two. There’s no movement there. He’s not getting caught from behind anytime soon. And there’s nothing he could do to make up the ground with Jordan. This would move people in that direction. I still think people are so entrenched in their opinion on this topic. I don’t think ultimately you get people to jump sides. But my goodness, Steven A’s life would be miserable with Shannon Sharpe every day. If this were to happen, listening to what Shannon would have to say about LeBron. This would move people in that direction. I still think people are so entrenched in their opinion on this topic. I don’t think ultimately you get people to jump sides.

Still, a 39-year-old LeBron dethroning the Nuggets and running through the gauntlet in the playoffs would make for such a compelling argument about why he should be the No. 1 player of all time. That said, MJ fans must be feeling safe about that happening, with the Lakers now down 0-2 to the Nuggets in the series.
